High School Donors

Local high school donations account for 25% of our communities’ blood supply.

If you are not able to donate blood, you can still earn community service hours and build your college resume by becoming a LIFELINE volunteer.

High School Red Cord Program

The Red Cord Program offers the opportunity for students to receive a truly special award who might not qualify through academics or athletics.

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THE RED CORD?

This program is special because it is designed to recognize high school students who donate blood 3 or more times from the time they turn 17 until graduation from high school. These students will receive a red honor cord and a certificate from LIFELINE Blood Services at their school’s Senior Awards and Honors Program.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Any student who attends a high school that participates in the program is eligible. The student may donate at their high school blood drives or at any other LIFELINE Blood drive or at the Blood Center in Jackson.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The High School Blood Drive contact person meet with the LIFELINE representative to set up blood drive dates. At the end of the year, the LIFELINE staff member will work with the High School Blood Drive contact person to compile a list of students who qualify to receive a Red Cord. A LIFELINE staff member will be available to present the Red Cord and certificate to the school’s Awards and Honors Day.

WHICH SCHOOLS ARE ELIGIBLE?

Any high school that is willing to hold 2 blood drives with LIFELINE during the school year is eligible to participate in the Red Cord Program. This allows the students more opportunities to qualify for the program.
