Hosting A Blood Drive

Blood Mobile

So now that you are hosting a blood drive, we want you to have all the tools that you need to make it a SUCCESS!! Remember, patients are counting on you, so let us help you to make this a great blood drive!

1. Start from the TOP.

Try to get management involved. If you have support from the top, your efforts are more likely to succeed.

2. It’s a team effort.

Recruit some people to help you get the word out about why giving blood is so vitally important. Excitement is contagious... so show people that you are excited about the chance to save a life. A LIFELINE recruitment staff member would love to come and give your team a motivational presentation. Call and schedule a meeting with your recruiter.

3. For the best results... ASK!

Without question, years of blood drive experience has taught us that the best way to get someone to donate a unit of blood is to ASK them personally. This is where your team comes in. Have a recruitment meeting to motivate your team and then set a recruitment day so that your team can ask others to donate. That is all some people need... someone willing to ask them.

4. Personal stories make a difference.

If you know someone whose life has been saved through blood donations, ask them if they would be willing to share their story. This makes it crystal clear as to why people should give blood. It is ALL about saving lives.

5. Make it fun!

Yes, blood drives can be fun! Competitions, door prizes and awards all work together for a fun experience. A special meal or refreshments for the donors on the day of the drive not only gives a festive atmosphere, but will make your donors feel special. You know better than anyone what will work with your group, so use your creative side to come up with something fun.

6. Be Enthusiastic!

Above all, be enthusiastic about the opportunity to save people’s lives though blood donations! You are doing something wonderful for someone else. It is worthy of celebration!

LIFELINE Blood Services will provide you with all of the posters, table tents, fliers or paycheck stuffers that you need to adequately publicize your blood drive. Getting the word out about the date and time of the blood drive is important, so just let us know what you need.

In today’s world, technology may be the best way to go. Emails and texts are a great way to publicize your blood drive. LIFELINE can provide you with a template to use for emails if you want to publicize your drive in this way.
